COUNCIL MEETING WRAP-UP | JULY 2022

Key items discussed at the July 2022 Council meeting included:

  • Adopted minutes from June Ordinary Meeting and the Special Budget Meeting (2022/23)
  • Condolences to the family of Joan Franzmann
  • Recognition awards to be held next month for 41 staff who have worked with Council for 5 or more years
  • Purchase of State Land required for Off stream Water Storage project
  • Annual memberships to the North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (NWROC) and Mount Isa to Townsville Economic Development Zone (MITEZ) to be paid. Both memberships support regional and local economic development and sustainability goals
  • Contract renewal for Andrews Town Planning for professional consulting services for 2022/23. Support services and general advice available to local business and community interested in submitting application to ensure compliance with the planning scheme
  • Approved development application to reconfigure one lot into two in Torrens Creek
  • Offered no objection to approve two applications to surrender and reissue permit to occupy permits. Applicants required to ensure that wild dogs and noxious weeds are controlled, and are encouraged to participate in the ‘Good Neighbour Program’ as part of the Flinders Shire Council Local Government Biosecurity Plan
  • Submission to Local Government Association of Queensland Conference for resolution to support adequate liveable community housing in rural and remote areas, as evidenced in the Western Queensland Alliance of Councils housing report
  • Purchase of two second-hand water tank trailers required for completion of Council’s scheduled works program
  • Grid subsidy application approved
  • Grant funding provided to Flinders Tennis Club for junior coaching clinic
  • Proposal supported for fundraising dinners by community groups at the Hughenden Allen Terry Caravan Park for visitors
  • Supported ongoing membership to North Queensland Sports Foundation (NQSF) for further three years. NQSF supports local bursary programs, the MoveIT NQ initiative, and events such as North Queensland and Western Queensland Games
  • Council representatives have participated in the Compassionate Communities Workshop facilitated through Palliative Care Queensland. Council will work with the Hughenden CAN to implement strategies to support individuals, families, carers and community more broadly to strengthen networks and supports available.
