Hughenden residents are thrilled to be pumping iron and pounding treadmills after the official opening of the community’s new gym.

The town turned out in their sportswear for the launch of the much-anticipated facility at Hughenden Aquatics Centre, funded by the Australian Government.

The gym, which will be open from 5am-10pm, seven days a week, is a game-changer for the local community.

“The gym has been on the Council’s wish list for many years, and we’re thrilled it’s finally a reality,” said Flinders Shire Mayor Jane McNamara.

“The new state-of-the-art facilities will reemphasise the importance of healthy bodies and healthy minds in creating a healthy community.

“The gym is decked out in brand new cardio and weights equipment, and its location next to our town swimming pool makes it a real hub of physical wellbeing and fitness.”

Gym membership starts from as little as $20 a month, while it is just $5 per session for a casual visitor.

People interested in joining the gym should visit the Council office to complete a membership form and payment, and they will then receive a toggle for entry into the gym.
Casual visitors can gain access by scanning their credit card at the door of the gym.

“Memberships are now officially open, and we’re positive the gym will be a very popular addition to our Shire’s extra-curricular activities,” said Cr McNamara.

“I’d like to thank the Queensland Reconstruction Authority for assisting in making this project a dream come true.”
