COUNCIL MEETING WRAP-UP | MARCH 2022

Key items discussed at the March 2022 Council meeting included:

  • Adopted the Sale, Lease, Rental or Agistment of Council Controlled Land Policy
  • Council to donate $5,000 towards the Premier’s Flood Appeal in partnership with the Western Queensland Alliance of Councils to support flood-affected areas in Queensland. Council wishes to recognise the immense support provided by coastal Councils when the Flinders Shire experienced floods in 2019, and wishes to show our support in helping these areas recover.
  • Issue was raised about the lack of General Practitioner-providing services in the Shire, and seeking alternative options for attracting private general practice in Hughenden. Council to have a workshop to discuss in more detail and to be discussed at April meeting
  • Reviewed and approved the March 2022 Financial Report
  • Grid Policy to be updated to determine the number of grids to comply with the current Engineering standards in line with the width of the road
  • Council offered no objection to the road closure on Lot 4 on Crown Plan DG62
  • Council adopted the pre-qualified suppliers register for trade and general services – 18 conforming tenders were received
  • Branches Performing Arts were awarded grant funding through Council’s Regional Arts Development Quick Response round to support dance classes in Hughenden
  • Application to be submitted to the North Queensland Sports Foundation’s Move It Program and support implementation of Fitness in Flinders Program. Council to contribute up to $15,000 towards the community health and wellbeing program
  • Two new bus tours to be offered in 2022 for visitors – Hughenden Town Tour and Mount Walker Sunset Tour
  • Expressions of Interest for the Flinders Discovery Centre Kiosk operator to be released to the public shortly. Council encourages interested local people to consider applying
  • Council will write a letter of support to the Hughenden Show Society’s application to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund for a new shed at the Hughenden Showgrounds. Council to provide co-contribution of $10,000 for power and plumbing, if the application is successful
  • Hughenden Freight Industrial was awarded funding through the Shopfront Improvement Grant for new signage.
