Key items discussed at the April 2022 Council meeting included:
- Condolences to the families of Doone Terry and Frank McArdle
- Subsidised hire fee to Flinders Horse Sports Inc. to assist with preparations for the upcoming Hughenden Show
- IPWEAQ is the peak body representing those engineering solutions for Queensland communities. Council to submit nomination to host the 2023 IPWEAQ Branch Conference, which may attract over 150 delegates
- Adopted rates for new workers accommodation at the Allan Terry Caravan Park, with bookings and enquiries managed via the Council Office
- Offered no objection to surrender and reissue a permit to occupy application
- Application to be submitted to Resource Community Infrastructure Fund to develop 10 three-bedroom dwellings to provide much needed long-term accommodation
- Reviewed and adopted the March Financial report for period ending 31 March 2022
- Reviewed and adopted 11 Councillor policies, including Acceptable Request Guidelines Policy, Appointment of Acting Chief Executive Officer Policy, Councillor Code of Conduct, and Portfolio System Protocols, to name a few
- Hughenden Swimming Pool to be closed during winter months from 1 May 2022 to early September 2022. Clubs and other organisations with appropriate insurances may continue to book and utilise the facility – bookings and more information available through the Council Office
- Quick Response Stream donation provided to Hughenden Jockey Club for Hughenden Bracelet Races 2022
- Four applications received and approved for Regional Arts Development Fund, for a total funding allocation of $11,463.56:
- Cameron Downs State School P&C – Art in the Bush Program
- Hughenden Show Society – Pavilion Arts Program
- Hughenden Country Music Association – Performance and Poetry Workshop
- Branches Performing Arts – assistance with travel and accommodation to support dance classes
- Council supports the running of Hughenden Lake Sailing Weekend on 2-3 July 2022 in partnership with the Townsville Sailing Club. Council will submit an application to the Regional Sport Events Fund
- Mayor Jane McNamara to be nominated as Flinders Shire Council representative on the Dinosaur Collective Advisory Panel
- Motion to be put to the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) Conference to call on the Federal Government to address doctor shortages and the lack of GPs in rural and regional areas through sponsoring increased internships in rural and remote hospitals for provisional registrar doctors.
