COUNCIL MEETING WRAP-UP | JUNE 2022

Key items discussed at the June 2022 Council meeting included:

  • Acknowledged the upcoming 100th birthday for Joyce Price – we wish Joyce many happy returns, it is an amazing achievement!
  • Council will provide $10,000 in sponsorship and donations funding for community groups holding events held from July–December 2022, and for sporting excellence in the Shire
  • Two Councillors to attend the Bush Councils Convention 2022 in Barcaldine, and the LGAQ Conference in Cairns. Council will prepare resolutions for the LGAQ Conference on water infrastructure in Northern Australia, access to housing in remote Queensland, and financial sustainability of Councils. To be discussed further at the July Council meeting
  • Council’s October Meeting to be rescheduled to 11 October 2022 to avoid conflict with the LGAQ Conference attendance
  • Discussion on letter received from community member seeking approval to coordinate community groups to host weekly evening dinner at the Caravan Park during visitor season. This item has been held over until July meeting, as Council seek more information on this request
  • Council has approved request for gravel from two local businesses
  • Council has adopted a University and Vocational Work Placement Policy, which will provide a program of scholarships and annual work placement opportunities to local people seeking to further their education and skill development. More information about the program will be shared with the local schools and community in due course
  • Accepted the May 2022 Financial report, and the 3rd quarterly progress report for the 2021/22 Operational Plan
  • Adopted a revised Complaints Management Policy and Procedure. The Policy and Procedure has been established to provide a clear administrative method of handling and resolving all complaints, and to ensure we maintain an open and accountable process to deal with all complaints received through official Council channels
  • Council to purchase Mobile Batching Plant to assist with Council road works and possible external projects
  • Council to reimburse property owner for new bore installed at Woman Swamp on the Kennedy Developmental Road and provide a permanent water point for any future road construction activities in the area. Council wishes to thank the Clothes Peg Station property owners (Murphy Family) for their cooperation and assistance with securing water for this project.
